90's TV Show Mishaps We Did Not Notice And Question As A Kid

As a child growing up in the 1990's I loved many (now classic) television shows that are still being re-aired today. After watching some of them as an adult, I have realized there were many things we should have questioned watching these television shows as kids.

14. What happened to Eric's BFF Jason?

Although only listed as a recurring character, Jason was Eric's best friend at John Adams High. However, he disappears a season before Eric graduates from John Adams with no explanation.

This is different from the exit by Mr. Turner and Minkus because their disappearance was at least explained (being in another wing of the school).

13. What did Dick Butkus know about basketball? - Hang Time

Although this is not a show inconsistency, it is a life one. During Hang Time's six-season run, Deering High School was coached by Reggie Theus and Dick Butkus. Theus was at least a former NBA player (and now a former Sacramento King's head coach) but Butkus had no ties to basketball. Apparently NBC thought being a Hall of Fame linebacker made you qualified to coach high school basketball.

12. Shawn Hunter's vanishing siblings - Boy Meets World

In season one, Shawn mentions having a sister named Stacy. We never met or would ever hear from her again.

We also were introduced to another half-brother named Eddie (prior to the introduction of Jack) during Cory's high school filming binge with Mr. Williams ("Eli"). We would never hear from him again, either.

When Chet dies, Eddie is nowhere to be found. What kind of son doesn't show up to his father's funeral?

11. Zack, Trini, and Jason were long gone before the "power transfer" - Mighty Morphin Power Rangers

As a kid, you were duped into believing that Zack, Trini, and Jason transferred their powers to Rocky, Adam, and Aisha. In actuality, their last six episodes they weren't really there at all. Thanks to recycled footage and always being morphed (Japanese footage) you never really noticed. Catch a couple episodes on Netflix and just listen to the ridiculous voice discrepancies. You can be the judge.

The reason for this charade? Zack, Trini, and Jason all wanted pay raises during the height of the show and were subsequently fired.

10. Morgan's disappearance - Boy Meets World

Morgan Matthews' "longest timeout ever" lasted for about a season and resulted in the replacement of the original actress.

Now the question is -- who will play Aunt Morgan in the upcoming Girl Meets World series?

9. Two different Aunt Viv's - Fresh Prince of Bel Air

Apparently we weren't supposed to notice the transformation of Aunt Vivian between the third and fourth seasons. I've always wanted to know why. A little research indicates that the original Aunt Viv "got a little too big for her britches."

In a revealing interview, Will Smith stated, "I can say straight up that Janet Hubert (original Aunt Vivian) wanted the show to be The Aunt Viv of Bel-Air Show. She said once, 'I've been in the business for 10 years and this snotty-nosed punk comes along and gets a show.'"

8. Why would Indiana not have a girls' varsity basketball team? - Hang Time

Were we really expected to believe that one of the meccas of basketball--Indiana--would not have a girls' basketball team? Indiana takes its basketball way too seriously for that to be possible. Have you seen Hoosiers?! However, I'm kind of glad they let Julie play on the boys' varsity basketball team because she was every guy's dream girl in the late 90's.

7. Indianapolis to Los Angeles - Good Morning, Miss Bliss to Saved by the Bell

Good Morning, Miss Bliss is now considered Saved by the Bell: The Junior High Years. How is it possible that Lisa, Zack, Screech, and Mr. Belding all moved from Indianapolis to sunny L.A. before the start of high school (and from Disney Channel to NBC)?

Furthermore, Zack and Jesse supposedly grew up together, but how is that possible if they lived on opposite sides of the country?

6. Topanga's whole wacky family - Boy Meets World

Topanga had a sister--Nebula Lawrence--in one of the early episodes (Eric even dated her). There must have been a HUGE family fall-out for her not to be mentioned ever again. What kind of sister misses your wedding?

Then there's the confusion with who Topanga's actual parents are. The actors and actresses who played Topanga's parents were inconsistent throughout the years. Three different actors played her father and two different actresses played her mother (and her mother had two different first names Chloe and Rhiannon).

After all of these Boy Meets World blunders, all I can picture is the episode where Eric goes to Hollywood and Ben "Sandwich" fires the toddler writers and calls them "poopy".

5. Keeping their identities a secret - Mighty Morphin Power Rangers

We all know we couldn't get away with everything in high school, but how is it possible that the Rangers could communicate and teleport to the command center without anyone seeing them (especially on a regular basis)? COMPLETELY unrealistic.

4. Enter Tori, Exit Tori - Saved by the Bell

During the gang's senior year, Kelly and Jesse exit and Tori enters. By the time graduation rolls around at Bayside, exit Tori re-enter Kelly and Jesse. Too much movement with no explanation and not enough Kelly Kapowski!

3. Nicky's ridiculously quick growth - Fresh Prince of Bel Air

We saw Nicky grow from a newborn to a preschooler in the blink of an eye. Whatever Geoffrey fed him should be made available to the general public.

2. Who the heck is Jesse Cochran? - Full House

That's right -- everyone's favorite, Uncle Jesse, was originally not a Katsopolis at all. During the first season of Full House he was Jesse Cochran. Remember he was a pest exterminator? By the second season his last name would switch to Katsopolis. Thus, becoming the Uncle Jesse we know and love.

1. Whatever happened to Judy Winslow? - Family Matters

During the fifth season she just disappeared with no explanation. Although she was the least utilized Winslow, they could have offered a legitimate explanation for her disappearance. We eventually found her, or at least the actress who played her (Jaimee Foxworth) in the 2000's in the pornographic industry.
