Facebook just makes us MORE of who we are. So if you are an angst-y teen, you will be even more angst ridden when spending time on Facebook. Social interactions MAGNIFY our feelings and emotions. When you are in a silly mood, you will be even MORE silly hanging out with a group of friends. When you are with friends you laugh more, you feel more insecure, you feel more competitive, you feel more loved and more hated that if you were hanging out by yourself. Lots of people are sad in the world, this isn’t Facebook’s fault. Also this magnification effect has benefits, too. People who are only moderately inclined to fight for equal rights and marriage equality become VERY motivated when they are on Facebook surrounded with other like minded people. People who kinda sorta want to revolt against an oppressive government become MORE inclined to fight for freedom when they are surround by others. Social sites make us MORE HUMAN and that is both good and bad. Now if this was a post about Candy Crush I’d be totally with you. How do you beat level 79 with no lollipops?
