We Americans are self-absorbed. Terrorism, sickness, disaster, economics—these things only matter when they happen to us. America is the housewife driving a Hummer down a crowded street doing sixty while applying her makeup and talking on her cell phone. We run the planet, yet we have not the slightest interest in what goes on outside our shores. This, my friends, is why they hate us.

ironically i had an Indian friend mention to me that although the events are undeniably tragic and concerning, the news cycle has been dominated by the events. To such an extent that there's conspicuous neglect of the economic crisis. MSM screws us again.

Yeah, because Google searches are a good representation of what the entirety of the American populace care about. Jesus Christ, it's the day after Thanksgiving, and everyone already has easy access to this information. It's on major news sites and television. Do you go out of your way to find absurd things to complain about?

On the first day it dominated the top 5 terms in Google Trends.

Uh, it doesn't really give the rest of us on planet Earth the warm fuzzies toward the States if you say “nobody” when you really mean no Americans care (assuming this is Google Trends USA you're talking about). I mean, who's insular now?

Perhaps it's because you don't have to search to find the information? Just a thought.

Why was my last post not accepted? It's plain that this issue does not need to be searched for. It's front page news everywhere you look.

People care more about pointless goings-on close to them than important events far from them. News at 11.

This doesn't surprise me, but not for cynical reasons. It's front page news on cnn.com. foxnews.com, msnbc.com, huffingtonpost.com, etc. There's no need to search.
