Tupac was not here to see it, but it was heaven sent and now we have a black president. Hip Hop artists everywhere are writing words that rhyme with “Obama” on their note pads.

“I hope we are now done with this whole obsession of having a black president so we can elect a president that is qualified next time.” Yeah we really elected him just because of race. You are so right. When we entered those voting booths, we totally forgot how he trounced McCain in three debates. We didn't think about how Obama clearly articulated his plans for the economy, climate change, health care etc, unlike John McCain. We didn't consider that Obama was right about the war in Iraq from the start or had a plan that actually address the huge mess up that is the Afghanistan war. We disregarded the fact that Obama chose to surround himself with capable advisors and colleagues, while McCain made bad judgments all throughout the campaign. Relying on poorly conceived tactics to get him through the campaign. We didn't consider how McCain and Palin had riled up their crowds with divisive politics and hate mongering. Sorry K.L May, we did make the right decision and chose the qualified candidate and race had nothing to do with it.
Race Matters…. and if you think that it doesn't you've probably never woke up every day of your life and thought about the color of your skin. How people will treat you as a result of that…. at work, at the grocery store, picking your kids up from school. Fuck this “Color Blind” bull shit. If your a Person of Color you can't just forget who you are and where you came from. Obama gives us (People of Color) hope because Racism and the glass celling do exists and effect our lives everyday. If a Black man can be elected President, it's telling the world and this country that change can and will happen. That we haven't forgotten the struggles and the sacrifices that our ancestors have made to be able to have one of our own living on Pennsylvania Avenue. All's I know is…. It's time to paint the White House Black.DE- Portland, OR
If we were so obsessed with simply electing a black person as president, why didn't we just elect Jesse Jackson when he ran? Hmmm… perhaps it's about more than just the color of his skin.
