WASHINGTON, D.C. — Yes, waiting in line to vote can be a pain — and, apparently, so is figuring out how to register. But for millions of people around the world, it’s still a dream.
The American embassy in Laos last month helped organize a mock presidential election for students at the Lao American College in the capitol city of Vientiane.
Laos is run by a communist dictatorship and doesn’t have open elections or a free press. This is as close to democracy as these students will get, at least this year.
