Labour gave BuzzFeed News an advance look at the advert, which cuts together clips pulled from news broadcasts to highlight "what the Conservatives did in five years".

The package, produced by Labour's digital campaign team, will be pushed across the party's Facebook and Twitter channels later on Thursday morning. Its release is timed to coincide with tonight's final TV leaders' debate for challenger parties, which will feature Labour leader Ed Miliband alongside the leaders of UKIP, the SNP, the Greens, and Plaid Cymru.

David Cameron will be absent from tonight's debate after his team successfully talked the broadcasters into agreeing to only one direct head-to-head debate involving the prime minister.

As one insider responsible for the new Labour video said: "The rationale is that it’s ahead of the challengers' debate, which Cameron has ducked because he can’t defend his record."
