A woman suffered life-threatening injuries Friday night when a broken baseball bat struck her in the head during an A's-Red Sox game at Boston's Fenway Park.

The incident occurred during the second inning when A's third baseman Brett Lawrie hit a pitch. Lawrie's bat broke in half and a large piece flew into the stands, where it struck the woman.

The woman was seated in the second row along the third base line, Boston police spokesperson Rachel McGuire told BuzzFeed News. McGuire described her injuries as "life threatening."
