The Ice Bucket Challenge has basically taken over Facebook’s news feed including yours. I know you’re cringing at every notification hoping it’s not a tag to dump freezing ice water on your head and on video…for Facebook. I even get nervous posting a status. Buuuuut, it’s for an amazing cause, right?
It has even caught the attention of the Today Show yet some think dumping ice water on your head isn’t doing any justice for ALS Awareness.
According to the ALS Association’s website:
“The challenge involves people getting doused with buckets of ice water on video, posting that video to social media, then nominating others to do the same, all in an effort to raise ALS awareness. Those who refuse to take the challenge are asked to make a donation to the ALS charity of their choice.”
Therefore, the more videos that clog your newsfeed, the less donations ALS is receiving.
However, according to CBS Boston, Barbara Newhouse, ALS Association’s national president, told WBZ NewsRadio 1030 on Friday that the challenge has nationally raised $168,000.
So either way, ALS Awareness is gaining more attention thanks to your nutty Facebook friends as well as major donations. However, if you’re still nervous about getting that dreaded notification, just donate the money instead. That way you are helping the cause without freezing off your balls (kinda rhymed).
