They’re plus size AND hot. THE TWO ARE NOT MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE.

    • Daniel Kelly, there is some truth to your assertion; traditionally models are there to, well, model the clothes, and esentially be “human coat hangers.” There is no denying that the women in this pictorial are attractive, sexy, beautiful and, yes, gorgeous, but some of them also appear significantly overweight. Beautiful and overweight are not - or at least should not be - mutually exclusive adjectives; however, I don’t think that is the point to debate. I find it more productive to point out how these women display a very specific, normative, and exclusive type of beauty, regardless of their size. They mostly have proportional figures, smooth and glowing skin, etc., which is not the way most women - skinny, average or overweight - tend to look. So, is this really subversive when dimply thighs, protruding bellys, or flabby arms are prominently absent, even though a day at the beach would most certainly show that the majority of women, of any size, does not have “perfect” physiques and does not look like these “plus-size” models or like “regular” ones? Aren’t these standards just as unrealistic?

Um…they all look plus-size to me. I’m plus-sized as well, and the only one that doesn’t look like she should be classified as such is Allegra Doherty. She looks like a size 10-ish? That was me at my smallest. Regardless, they’re all beautiful, and these photos make me feel better about myself.

Let’s be real. Some of those women are plus sized, but are still just as beautiful as any other model and are obviously comfortable with their bodies, as they should be with such beautiful ones

It’s not so much that these women should not be called “plus-size,” because they are. It’s more about the fact that the term “plus-size” should not be and should never be derogatory. There is absolutely nothing wrong with having a wide waist or hips or stomach. The guy that parked next to you at the mall today may not like your body, but if you do, what the hell else matters? If you were trying to make a point about size 12 being too small to be considered “plus-size,” try finding women who are that size for reasons other than their midsections. We do exist: I’m 5’8 and 135lbs, and I wear size 12 or 14, depending on the brand. It’s because my ass is huge and my legs are long. I’ve had department store workers try to give me clothing in size 2 because I apparently look like that’s what I should wear.

What’s the point of this article? These women are considered plus sized because they are plus sized. Some of them appear to be overweight actually. So what?

I hate the tone of the title for this article. It’s insinuating that there’s something wrong with America for thinking that these women are plus-size. Guess what? They ARE plus-size. Holy judgemental tone, author… They are plus size. Who cares. Move on…

The issue with plus size isn’t that these women are or are not plus size by the definition that society has assigned it. This issue is, why does society have any right to define people’s size? Especially when these women are clearly gorgeous and healthy! Shouldn’t all models just be models? Does there really need to be a category for women that wear a size 12 or larger? If they book jobs, and model clothes they are models, end of story. Also a lot of the models that are just considered models are incredibly thin but we don’t refer to them as “Minus size” Or “Thin size” they are just called models… I do think subconsciously it sends a message to women that anything above a 12 is greater than normal and therefore not attractive…

Um, America thinks they’re plus sized because they are. “Plus size” is a standard created by the industry; it doesn’t mean anything else. Stop conflating “plus size” and/or “fat” with “ugly”.

All these women are gorgeous, but they all are not a size 12. Why must we always slap a size label on someone anywho…

    • leaha3 3 months ago

some of these women are average sized. Personally these women do not represent the everyday woman, while they are all very beautiful it is going to take a lot of women like these and more to change the fashion industry’s views. I dont know many people who can actually fit clothes straight from the runway unless they are clothes from Torrid or Lane Bryant

Beautiful women, its refreshing to see a body that actually looks like me. some of the clothes though, what the..? what is that red see through bathing suit thing?
