22. Employers are not allowed to discriminate on the grounds of race, gender, sexual orientation, disability… But they are allowed to discriminate against you if you have visible tattoos. I know people who’ve lost prospective jobs due to their ink, one friend got through several interviews and an exam only to be told at the 11th hour she wouldn’t get the job because her sleeves didn’t quite cover the birds on her wrists. It’s very sad, but there is absolutely nothing an employee or applicant can do, because for whatever reason, employers can say no thanks to ink. So, check with industry codes of conduct to see if tatts you can’t easily cover up will ruin your employment opportunities, and consider getting inked in places that are covered normally by clothes.
