1. Nobody saw that coming
How did we score more than one...
At 75mins it looked like binary #bhafc was set to continue.
Our goals scored in the last 8 games at the Amex before last night was 0-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1
And our last 7 victories in the Championship have all been 1-0
But in the end...
"Everybody says we have a big squad but we haven't, we're down to the bare bones"
"We got done"
"I thought it was going to be a hard game but it wasn't that hard, even though we lost. I'm the first to hold my hands up when we get beaten, we were useless at Nottingham Forest and we got well beaten, we were terrible. "But I couldn't fault our performance tonight – for 80 minutes I thought it was as good as we'd played."We didn't take our chances. We got some great opportunities but I felt we didn't get a break but we dominated the game.
3. To be fair. QPR were robbed.
"until the late Brighton brace, both sides showed all the cutting edge of a sausage."
The result was harsh on QPR, who had dominated for large spells but lacked the incisive pass to carve open a real chance. In the first half the mangers Oscar Garcia and Redknapp were more entertaining in their technical areas – gesticulating, gesturing, prowling and barking orders – than the action on the field.Their sides were reduced to long-range efforts and there was not a clear opening of note.
At Championship level QPR have a star studded squad. We may have looked at Reading on Saturday, easing the famous Royston Drenthe back in, without our beloved Wayne Bridge, and envied their resources but the truth is the money is running out at the Madjeski. It never runs out at Loftus Road. It flows like water in the Somerset Levels and it's just as obtrusive and ugly. Thus they could play famous names like Joey Barton, Benoit Assou-Ekotto, Ravel Morrison and Richard Dunne (48k a week someone told me after). They could afford to have Benayoun and Kranjcar on the bench – not even bring them on – and yet they still lost. Oh how they shouldn't have.
But highlights prove that for once this season, Albion were clinical.
5. Oscar's subs changed the game. Again.
"You're bloody brilliant"
6. Lewis Dunk took his chance
Oscar on Dunk
"He is a young player and still has to improve, but with the right mentality I know he will be a fantastic player for Brighton & Hove Albion for a very long time."
Local boy Dunk didn't disappoint. From the off the 22-year-old was imperious in the air. QPR set up with Will Keane up front with Ravel Morrison buzzing around behind him. Any time the ball was swung into the box, be it looking for Keane or into a crowd of players from a set piece, it was often the heads of Dunk and defensive partner Matthew Upson that would repel it. Even long balls forward would see Keane try and use his body to lean into the defenders to win the ball and have no luck. Had the more physical presence of Kevin Doyle been available there might have been more problems in the air but on this showing there are no worries on that front. While balls in the air may have been their bread and butter it would be, on paper, the ball on the floor that would provide QPR with more joy. Dunk was strong in the tackle when faced with a 50-50 tackle but it was perhaps the covering play that made him stand out.
7. That last 15 minutes was the best atmosphere in the Amex this season
8. Joey Barton - He's alright really.
Booed throughout for reasons i couldn't really fathom.
One final mention has to go to Joey Barton. If the pantomime villain that is Adkins played his part on Saturday then Joey, to his credit, played his down. Getting merciless stick for just being Joey Barton he got on with his job professionally, never playing up to the taunts or committing a bad tackle. At the end he shook hands with everyone and trudged off to acknowledge the 25 or so QPR fans who'd stayed to clap off their team.
Even tweeted some credit to the Albion
And i liked how Kaz and Joey hugged on the final whistle out on the left wing.
Signing Autographs long after match over...
9. Stephen Ward has turned into the key signing of the season
And his goal celebrations are the most joyous in the club.
10. Where's Obika ?
He's obviously got a sense of humour... (i hope)
Our squad is now back to full fitness so first teamers Chicksen, Agustien and Hoskins (now fit) played in the Dev Squad match on Monday night. No room for Obika in the 18.
11. A rare bad night for those getting a train
Late running Network Rail train made trains run 10 minutes late, chuck in the extra QPR train which further adds issues and also fewer coaches owing to it being a midweek game - then you have big problems. Southern are at (near) 100% useage on weekday evenings and there are no extra coaches to use, it has been like this for 3 years now and it wont change anytime soon. The coaches are needed for peak-time trains and are prioritised for London services. The empty train which ran through Falmer at 9.50 was the empty coaches being used for the QPR special, has this stopped and picked up those going to Brighton, it would have delayed trains behind it and also further delay trains going East. The QPR special ran just over 10 minutes late as it did.Nothing like an exaggeration. It really isnt that bad, you will NEVER be straight onto a train 5 minutes after FT.There was also signalling issues in the Hastings area, and since a fair few Brighton services come from Hastings/Eastbourne - that delayed them into Brighton, which in turn delayed them coming back out.
12. Where's Harry ?
Best. Photobomb. Ever.
Thats not Ian Holloway on the right :)
13. Talking of centre halves getting sent off - Over in Bristol.
14. It looks like we're guaranteed crowds like this next season too
More than 20,000 existing holders have already signed up for next season and the club is expecting that number to rise significantly between now and Thursday's 5pm upfront-payers deadline.
