Movies Around Manhattan

One of the best parts of living in NYC during the summer are all of the free outdoor movie screenings that take place. This summer is no different, with an excellent selection of blockbusters, family favorites, cult classics and indie flicks. Pack up some snacks, grab a blanket or a low chair, and head out to watch some of your favorite movies outdoors overlooking staples of the city like the Manhattan skyline, Hudson River, Brooklyn Bridge, the Intrepid and more. Here is just a sample of the movies being shown this summer!

1. May 23: Top Gun

Location: Intrepid Museum, Manhattan
Time: 7:30pm - 11:00pm

Whether you prefer Goose or Maverick, you and your friends can sit back and watch this Tom Cruise classic. Bring your lawn chairs, picnic baskets and blankets as well as your own food, snacks and non-alcoholic beverages. Doors open at 7:30pm and the film begins at sunset, weather permitting. Seating is on a first come first serve basis, and there is no admission after 8:30pm.

2. June 11: Gravity

Location: Pier A Park, Hoboken New Jersey
Time: 9pm - 11:30pm

Enjoy this larger than life movie experience on the beautiful lawn at the Hoboken Pier. See one of the years best films being shown with the Manhattan skyline as your backdrop. For the best seating, come early and bring a blanket or comfortable low-back chair. You may bring a picnic, but alcohol consumption is not permitted and subject to a fine.

3. June 18: Anchorman 2

Location: Pier A Park, Hoboken New Jersey
Time: 9pm - 11:30pm

The legend continues in this hilarious sequel to one of America’s most beloved comedies. Grab some cannoli’s from Carlo’s Bake Shop and enjoy this FREE outdoor movie screening, located on First St. and Frank Sinatra Drive in Hoboken, NJ.

4. July 9: Clueless

Location: Riverside Park, Manhattan
Time: 8:30pm - 10:30pm

It doesn’t matter if you’re a total Betty or a complete Monet (As if!) , grab your girlfriends and head over to Pier 1 at Riverside Park and catch up with Cher, Dion and the rest of the gang.

5. July 9: Back to the Future

Location: McCarren Park, Brooklyn
Time: 5pm

Where we’re going, we don’t need roads….or money! This screening of an 80’s classic is completely free!

6. July 16: Zoolander

Location: McCarren Park, Brooklyn
Time: 5:00pm

The only more important thing in life than being really really really good looking is that this summer you can catch Zoolander at McCarren Park in Williamsburg.

7. July 23: The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

Location: Pier A Park, Hoboken New Jersey
Time: 9:00pm - 11:30pm

Catch the box-office smash sequel to The Hunger Games this summer on the picturesque Pier A in Hoboken. Bring a blanket and some snacks, and remember, may the odds be ever in your favor!

8. July 30: ET: The Extra Terrestrial

Location: Pier A Park, Hoboken New Jersey
Time: 8:15pm - 11:00pm

Presented by the City of Hoboken, along with Projected Images of Hudson County and the Hudson County Division of Cultural Affairs, there will be a special screening of the beloved story of the adorable alien trying to make his way back home.

9. August 12: Despicable Me 2

Location: Crocheron Park, Queens
Time: 8:00pm - 10:00pm

Gather up your little Minions and take a trip to the beautiful Crocheron Park located in Queens, NY and see what Gru has been up to lately.

10. August 14: Captain Phillips

Location: Intrepid Museum, Manhattan
Time: 7:30pm - 11:00pm

Join the Intrepid Museum for its 6th annual Summer Movie Series and enjoy a FREE feature film under the stars on the flight deck! Bring your lawn chairs, picnic baskets and blankets. Guests are encouraged to bring their own food, snacks and non-alcoholic beverages. Doors open at 7:30pm and the film begins at sunset, weather permitting.

11. August 26: Frozen

Location: Highland Park, Brooklyn
Time: 7:30pm - 9:30pm

12. August 22: The Wizard of Oz

Location: Pier 46, Manhattan
Time: 8:30pm - 11:00pm

Click your heels three times and find yourself at Pier 46 in Chelsea. This breathtaking view of the Hudson river will make watching one of the best movies of all time an unforgettable experience. Bring your family, friends, and lawn chairs. Along with the movie, popcorn is also complimentary!
