An Effigy Of Alex Salmond Was "Detonated" Last Night

A Lewes bonfire society burned Alex Salmond for Guy Fawkes Night.

This effigy of Alex Salmond will be burned in Sussex tonight.

A sneak preview of Alex Salmond and Nessie ahead of tonight's bonfire in Lewes - it just rolled up at County Hall.

One of the societies that run the Lewes bonfire, the UK's largest Bonfire Night event, has chosen to burn an effigy of Alex Salmond, the Loch Ness Monster, and a "45%" badge.

It's not gone down very well with the 45%.

@EastSussexCC @DouglasDaniel What a complete bunch of cunts

An Alex Salmond effigy is to be burned as advertised by @EastSussexCC. Previous effigies include Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein. Disgusting.

Can it possibly be acceptable or even legal 2burn an effigy of a LIVING PERSON? Not part of my moral code. @EastSussexCC you are despicable!

Is burning an effigy of Alex Salmond @EastSussexCC 's way of lovebombing Scotland? #gypes

@WeAreNational @EastSussexCC What a coincidence. I'm burning an effigy of East Sussex County Council on my bonfire tonight.

@WeAreNational @EastSussexCC is that real? They're actually burning Salmond and Nessie guys?

This is the fate which awaits Salmond.

But he's in prestigious company. The people of Lewes set fire to Angela Merkel in 2012.

The Lewes bonfire looks like a pretty weird tradition altogether.

It turns out that, after much initial confusion, an effigy of Alex Salmond was destroyed last night.

But unlike previous suggestions that it would be burnt, reports from this morning suggest that an effigy of Alex Salmond was "detonated".

Newspapers are wrong: Alex Salmond effigy was lit with fireworks then detonated in Lewes. I saw it and took pics:
