8 Facts About The Newly Elected George P. Bush

The latest politician to bear the name George Bush won a Republican primary Tuesday for the office of Texas Land Commissioner. It's a small-sounding job that may just launch the next chapter in the Bush political dynasty.

1. George P. Bush is the son of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.

George P. was born in Houston. The "P" stands for Prescott.

2. He's the nephew of George W. Bush and the grandson of George H. W. Bush.

3. Bush's mom is from Mexico, and he speaks Spanish.

Columba Bush, neé Gallo, was born in Leon, Guanajuanto in 1953. She met Jeb Bush in 1971 when he was teaching English in Mexico, and became a naturalized citizen in 1998. George P.'s connections to Latin America and his bilingualism have helped him appeal to the Latino community.

4. Bush was an undergrad at Rice University and has a law degree from the University of Texas.

After school he went on to clerk for Judge Sidney Allen Fitzwater, then worked in Dallas at a law firm, Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP. Later, he founded a private equity company. Bush met up with his old boss, Judge Fitzwater, earlier this year on the campaign trail.

5. Bush launched his campaign last year, with a Beyoncé-esque video.

7. In conservative Texas, Bush's primary win means he'll likely become the next Texas land commissioner.

Though "land commissioner" may sound stuffy, it isn't. The job includes managing billions of dollars of investments, assets and mineral rights. Other responsibilities include dealing with oil, schools and veterans.
