Clip Shows Should Be On The Way Out

There are a lot of shows out there that use footage from everyday people and it's probably going to end in the near future.

Remember back in the day when you watched America's Funniest Home Videos? Bob Saget was the host and all was well in the world. Folks would send taped events with hilarious consequences to the show for the chance it'll earn them a few bucks. And by a few I mean thousands. It took some effort to get those videos to them especially since you had to mail them yourself.

Nowadays, it's kind of easy to send videos all over the world. Because of that, people have publicly posted their antics on YouTube and other websites. Well, doing that gives anybody the right to post it somewhere else. Television shows like Tosh.O, AFV and even The Soup could be on their way out the door. As much as I love all of those shows, it all just seems like too much effort for the work they're doing.

If you noticed, some shows announce they will not accept submissions. This is the complete opposite of how they used to run these. Of course it's to prevent people from being injured or killed from trying to become famous. But, it's all in vain since idiots do dumb things all the time and just post them directly online. There's no need to submit your footage because the shows will just find them and you'll become famous anyway.

Everything starts on the web and just ends up on those shows. You can find all the popular videos before they appear on TV. You can poke around YouTube, Facebook, Tumblr, Reddit and all kinds of websites to find the next viral sensation. Then it's up to the shows to try and track down the original poster but that could take a lot of effort. So, the easiest way to solve this is just turn these shows into web shows. Why am I watching clips from the computer on TV when I can watch them...on the computer.

There just seems to be a lot of these shows with a similar shtick. I wouldn't be surprised if they end in a year or two despite how popular they are. America's Funniest Home Videos shouldn't even be called that anymore. People from Canada can submit to the show and win cash prizes. Those dang Canadians, this whole thing is probably their fault.
