David Tennant Signs On As The Villain Of Netflix's "A.K.A. Jessica Jones"

Allons-y, Tenth Doctor fans.

Attention, Doctor Who fans: David Tennant has signed on to star in Netflix's series A.K.A. Jessica Jones, opposite Krysten Ritter as the titular character, Marvel announced on Monday.

Tennant — who played the Tenth Doctor between 2005 and 2010, and who also recently starred in Gracepoint (the U.S. adaptation of ITV's murder mystery Broadchurch... which also starred Tennant) — will play the villainous Killgrave in the 13-episode Marvel drama, which will launch on Netflix sometime in 2015.

A.K.A. Jessica Jones will focus on the struggles of Ritter's eponymous character, a New York City private detective and ex-superhero who works on cases involving individuals with special abilities beyond that of ordinary folks. Though not much is known about Killgrave's role in the Netflix series, in the Marvel comics on which it is based, Zebediah Killgrave — aka Purple Man — is a villain with the power of mind control and manupulation who has tangled with Daredevil and Luke Cage (both of whom will star in their own Netflix shows) and most notably with Jessica Jones in Brian Michael Bendis' Alias.

It was revealed in the Alias comic book series that SPOILER ALERT! Killgrave had seized control of Jessica's mind and psychologically tortured her for months, forcing her to live with him. There's no word if the series will stick to this particular plot point, but a press release announcing Tennant's role described Killgrave as "an enigmatic figure from Jessica's past" and noted he will "send shockwaves through the former superhero's world."

Tennant, of course, is no stranger to playing a villain: The Scottish actor also played certifiably insane bad guy Bartemius "Barty" Crouch Jr. in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

There are no words for how excited we are for this...

OK, maybe one.
