Gawker Media’s Commenter Problem

itmustbeken a year agoMedia people say they love ‘community’ and the ‘socialization’ of media…but they don’t. What they love is to hear how wonderful they are and how their story could be slightly improved. Gawker has done a great job of cultivating a persona for their commentators. They are, for the most part, young, hip, liberal and the nastiest bitches you don’t want to cross. They would say they are ‘open minded’ but that’s code for ‘disagree with me, and I will shank you’. Congratulations Gawker, you are editing what you report on because you are afraid that the cool kids will be mean to you. It’s high school all over again.
