The City Of Edmonton Had To Take Down A Sign Promising People "Opertunity"

    "Sigh."

The City of Edmonton had to remove a sign that included an embarrassing spelling mistake.

@doniveson looks bad when we spell things wrong on our own signs.... Doesn't shout confidence

Someone alerted Mayor Don Iveson to this embarrassing sign on Friday, tweeting that it "looks bad" when the city misspells words on its own signs.

The sign was advertising the "opertunity" of buying land from the City of Edmonton through its website, although the URL provided was also wrong. (The real website is at edmonton.ca.)

Not only is there a spelling mistake...the website is wrong. .ab is not the domain. It's .ca.

Mayor Iveson seemed frustrated and asked the city's official account to "please address" the issue.

    Sigh. @CityofEdmonton please address. https://t.co/IoWA81j7S2

The City of Edmonton released a statement apologizing for the "unfortunate mistake" and said it was already working on removing the misspelled sign.

The city takes such errors "very seriously," the statement said.

Some found the city's quick response noteworthy.

Others suggested a new city slogan to replace "City of Champions."

And many just thought it was a good chance for some personal growth.
