10 Race Car Features We Wish We Had In Real Life

High school would have been a totally different story if all cars looked like this. Here are the top features we wish all cars had, because everyone should feel like they're driving an INDYCAR.

1. First of all, these cars have cockpits. And cockpits just look really cool.

Why can't you drive all cars from a cockpit? Sure, it might get tiresome after a while, but it looks so awesome!

2. Who wouldn't be down with some fancy aerodynamic features on their vehicle?

For example, the front and rear wings of an INDYCAR are designed to keep the car grounded at high speeds, as well as reduce wind drag, which increases fuel efficiency. Stay safe, and save money!

3. You know what else would be cool? A turbine engine!

These engines are compact, lightweight, and extremely powerful. They also have a lot of potential to become generators for hybrid-electric cars, so maybe this could actually happen for everyone someday!

4. And to keep things safe, we should all get a roll cage.

OK, maybe it's not quite as fun as this looks, but having an ultra-protective cage that keeps you safe in case of a car accident would pretty nice. This definitely makes sense for race cars AND regular cars.

5. Speaking of safety, let's upgrade those flimsy seatbelts to a five-point safety harness.

6. Perhaps a molded seat would be nice?

If not more comfortable, definitely safer. These molded seats are constructed with a plastic foam material that is designed to provide more support to your body while driving. Sounds like memory foam, right?

7. It's pretty scary how thin the doors on our cars can be. Perhaps some carbon fibre side panels would make sense!

8. Ever have some debris crack your windshield while driving? Yeah, that wouldn't happen with a Lexan windshield.

Lexan is a polycarbonate material used in INDYCAR helmets. It's incredibly strong, but also soft enough that it doesn't shatter on impact when an object hits it.

9. Your gas tank doesn't have to be a liability.

Race car fuel cells (or fuel tanks) are filled with foam to keep the fuel from sloshing around, which lessens the chance of an explosion by reducing the amount of air in the tank.

10. And for funsies, let's add some turbo-charging capabilities to the mix.

By cramming more air and fuel into an engine, you can maximize the amount of power your vehicle is capable of. Kind of like the "Push to Pass" feature that provides INDYCAR drivers with turbo-charging capabilities to pass their opponents.
