Response to 26 Glorious Things Newcastle Gave The World:
The Get Carter carpark was the colloq. name for the multistorey in GATESHEAD town centre (and has now been pulled down). The Angel of the North is actually in GATESHEAD, the Baltic Flour Mill and all of the installations, also in GATESHEAD. Oh and the bridges…all but one are half owned by Newcastle and half owned by GATESHEAD except for the GATESHEAD Millenium Bridge which Newcastle refused to contribute any money towards…meaning that if you cross that bridge you are still in Gateshead until you touch the concrete on Newcastle quayside. Rowan Atkinson was technically from Consett which is County Durham.
I agree that all of these things are awesome…but maybe they should be attributed to the North East, not just Newcastle.
