Seven bishops and Cardinal Sean O’Malley travelled to the U.S. - Mexico border to trace the path that thousands of migrants follow every year as they come to the United States.
They walked the same routes where thousands of migrants have perished in an effort to provide for their families and build a better life.
They spoke with local priests and community leaders about the need to find a solution to our broken immigration system.
They were struck by the danger migrants face as they travel across the border.
On Tuesday morning, the bishops and Cardinal Sean O’Malley celebrated a somber Mass in the imposing shadow of the border fence.
On both sides of the border, Catholics gathered to pray for the thousands of women and men who have died crossing the border in search for a better life.
On the other side of the border fence, young and old gathered to celebrate Mass and pray.
Worshipers on both sides of the border received communion and prayed for a solution to a broken immigration system that has failed thousands of migrants crossing the border.
