Hundreds Of Indians Are Posting Selfies With Cows To Protest Their Slaughter

"Since selfies are trending right now, this way youth will feel the need to save cows."

Kolkata-based trust Go Seva Parivar has started a social media trend called #SelfieWithGoMata to bring attention to their protest against cow slaughter in West Bengal.

The trust claims it is receiving thousands of selfies. Their Facebook album already has about 600.

"We started this great event from last year to create the general awareness that cow protection is not religious but scientific," Lalit Agarwal, Go Seva Parivar spokesperson, told Business Standard. "Cow products like cosmetics and incence sticks as also the edibles are cheaper than those made from other chemicals. They are good for the health and hygienic," he further said.

The initiative was also a contest and the best cow selfies won prizes.

"To us, cows are celebrities, they are our 'go mata’," Agarwal told the media.

"Since selfies are trending right now, this way youth will feel the need to save cows," one participant said.
