cmh123- I specifically said that sometimes it hurts, and that everyone is different. But there’s a huge difference between ‘for some women, breastfeeding might hurt’ and ‘it always hurts’, and i see the latter so often. A lot of the time, pain means something’s wrong with your latch. If women think pain is necessary, they may power through pain that is completely avoidable. Much better to say it may or may not happen, and that if you are in pain, always get someone to check whether there’s something you can do to mitigate or even eliminate it.
