A government study found that female drivers were responsible for almost two-thirds of accidents that involved hitting the gas instead of the brake, according to the AP. This occurred most commonly with older women, and the most frequent place they occurred was in parking lots.

In accidents that were crashes, 60 percent involved males.

So! This ridiculous “age old question” is not answered at all, except to say that men and women are, at least statistically speaking, both bad at driving, albeit in different ways.
