It mattered plenty. Koch could have been another Harvey Milk when we needed one most — at the very beginning of the AIDS crisis. Back then public education could have saved millions of lives —it did in the U.K. where the govt taught people how to play safe. Before he was mayor, Koch was the U.S. Rep for Greenwich Village probably the most “liberal” district in the country. At least he never failed to sponsor and vote for any pro-legislation in Congress. But as mayor, the money he could have directed to housing and medical care for People with AIDS — but didn’t—is pretty disgusting. We have always needed heroes. And we still do. Corey Booker shame on you.
