Last week, Red Phoenix Pictures shared this tantalizing teaser for their fan-made web series Auror's Tale, bringing the Wizarding World to New York City for a grittier take on the Harry Potter universe. The team hinted at launching a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for Act 1 of the series. That rumored Kickstarter campaign is now live, with a goal of $13,750 by July 6th. If successful, the series will air between August and October.

The team at Red Phoenix notes that Auror's Tale is "a new story set in an existing universe, but we want to reiterate how unique and different it truly is. There are all new characters, a dynamic city setting, and original music created by composer Glen Cheney, which fans can hear in our Kickstarter video."

Fan creations running Kickstarter campaigns may be treading on unstable ground...but while NBC shot down the Inspector Spacetime Kickstarter campaign because of its loose ties to the Community series, it's worth noting the project was successfully funded under the tongue-in-cheek title of Untitled Webseries About A Space Traveller Who Can Also Travel Through Time.

Red Phoenix Productions is working on a Harry Potter-themed web series for the summer, and released a teaser trailer to whet the appetites of Potter fans underwhelmed by Pottermore and looking for something more substantial.

The series plans to follow newly-minted Auror Hawthorne (a Salem Academy graduate) as he deals with New York City's gang of magical ne'er do wells known as the Hellhounds. Apparently, a prerequisite of magical law enforcement is a proclivity for wordless magic, but the production values in this proof-of-concept peek into the series (which just started filming episode one) are spot-on.

There's plans for the web series to launch a Kickstarter campaign in the near future, so the project runs the risk of running into trouble with the non-magical arm of the law, like when NBC attempted to shut down the Inspector Spacetime web series.
