Will Your Dissertation Be The Thing That Finally Defeats You?

Oh dear. You probably knew this would happen. Your dissertation, some day soon, will come and find you where you are sleeping, take one long look at your twisted body and exhausted mind, and vanquish you once and for all. All that will be left is a pile of lackluster notes, and a half a Word document literred with inelegant sentences and ill-formed arguments. At least now you know your fate is certain.

In the battle between you and your dissertation, you will be triumphant. One bright morning, after a night of anguish, heartache, and sorely tested will, you will put the finishing touches on your work, go to the printer, and smile a weak smile. In that moment, it will be over. You will be free. You will walk through the woods for miles, hearing the chatter of birds for the first time in months, come upon a cliff's edge, and laugh maniacally at the entire, trembling world, for you are its master. That, or you'll take a very long nap.
