Best 2012 Lip Dubs On YouTube

If you spend any time on YouTube, you know that lip dubs exploded in popularity this year. There were several hits, but I wanted to highlight some of my personal favorites that I consider to be "the best" as characterized by views, quality of content, social relevance and overall greatness.

    10. The Fastass Flying Hummingbirds

This little gem came from the genius that brought us the viral sensation, The Crazy Nastyass Honey Badger, which has accumulated over 55 million views on YouTube in the last 2 years. If you're not familiar with Randall's Wild Wild World of Animals, it could be described as the Discovery Channel as narrated by an exuberant, and flamboyant, gay dude. So, needless to say, all his videos are pretty hilarious, but this video made the list just because hummingbirds are so fucking adorable.

    9. Sticky Buddy Dub

Ever marveled at the absurdity of those ridiculous "As Seen On TV" products and commercials? Then you'll really appreciate Jaboody Dubs' particular comic sensibilities. He takes classic Billy Mays commercials, as well as other stupid products, and dubs over them with the way he would pitch the products. The Sticky Buddy dub was my personal favorite for several reasons, but mostly because of the legitimate use of the term "pussy hair."

    8. Dubstep Hipster Cat

There were a lot of fucking dubstep dubs on YouTube this year, and most of them suck, but this shit right here is GOLD! Genius Skifcha added a pair of glasses and a mustache to his kitty, combined the perfect song to the perfect cat movements, and now we have a masterpiece. This here is the 5 hour loop and honestly, I could watch all of it.

    7. GOTYE SOMEBODY THAT I USED TO KNOW BY TWO KIDS IN A CAR

    youtube.com / Via youtube.com

Just when I was starting to get sick of all the fucking Gotye parodies, this thing hit the scene. I normally don't like cutesy kid videos, but I've got to give this one props, those kids sure know how to do EMO.

    6. Mullet Whistler - Dubstep Remix

Even though YouTubers WTFBrahh had much bigger hits than this one (like GOT OBAMA PHONE and Yip Yip Dubstep) this one here is my personal favorite because they revitalized a classic meme. I thought the original video of Ralph "Mullet Whistler" Giese couldn't get any better, but when I saw him perfectly dubstepified it was love at first site. DELIGHTFUL!

    5. Courtney Stodden (Brock's Dub)

YouTuber Brock Baker, of Brock's Dubs, forever won my heart over with this spot-on dub of the most horrifying couple of 2012. Courtney Stodden and Doug Hutchison (Dourtney?) made everyone want to vomit this year; with their staged photo-ops and icky interviews, they were easy to hate on. There were a few parody videos out there, but none that captured the sleaziness like this delicious dub.

    4. World's First Live Lip-Dub Divorce Proposal

You know what I hate more than little kid videos on YouTube? Fucking marriage proposal videos, UGH! Well, in 2012 we had a viral sensation in the form of Isaac's Live Lip-Dub Proposal. It disgusted me. Lucky for me, The Second City Network felt the same and they made this epic spoof which, quite frankly, is way better than the original.

    3. Town Hall Debate Songified

I fucking love SCHMOYOHO and almost everything that they do, but some might say that their videos aren't true lip dubs, I don't care, I'm putting them in my list. The Gregory Brothers are the creative force behind the channel and are best known for their Auto-Tune The News videos. This year they really catapulted into the mainstream with their auto-tuning the presidential debates. The videos were all hilarious, but this one was my personal favorite. I'd like to think that, in their own way, they created more political awareness among a younger demographic.

    2. Barack Obama Singing Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen

    youtube.com / Via youtube.com

There were sooooo many "Call Me Maybe" parodies and dubs this year. Damn it, the song is catchy, but it takes more than lip syncing to make a unique viral hit. BARACKSDUBS had a hit on their hands when they scoured hours of real footage of Obama to get him to sing the song. The final result is edited beautifully and, surprisingly, sounds quite good!

    1. "Edward and Bella" — A Bad Lip Reading of Twilight

    youtube.com / Via youtube.com

What a year for Bad Lip Reading! Even though BLR uploaded its very first YouTube video in March 2011, some of their biggest hits came in 2012. Their videos are true lip dub; there's no need for the bells or whistles, just some irreverent dialogue and spot-on timing. Though the election season gave them some great fodder, it was the hysteria over the latest Twilight movie that made this video a viral sensation. The whole Bella and Edward relationship is already absurd, when you really think about it, but this lip dub took the absurdity to another level of hilarity. I'm looking forward to what BLR has in store for us in 2013!
