10 WWF Wrestlers You Had Forgotten About

There once was a glorious organization called, The World Wrestling Federation. I know that it still kinda exists as the WWE, but let's face it, it sucks hard. Watching the wrestlers of today made me long for the epic wrestlers of yesterday, and those legends made me long for all those weird, off-color, and shitty characters that emerged along the way. Take my hand as we walk down memory lane and revisit some of those unforgettable characters that we've forgotten.

1. IRS (Irwin R. Schyster)

There's nobody more intimidating and ruthless than the tax man. At least that must have been the WWF's logic when they introduced IRS in 1991. There were numerous delightful skits of him giving tax advice and being an overall dick, but nothing was better than watching him knock someone out with his briefcase. He found some notoriety as part of Money Inc. and The Million Dollar Corporation (with The Million Dollar Man), but he fizzled out some time in the mid-nineties. As a friend recently pointed out, given the economic climate, IRS would probably be a bigger hit nowadays.

2. The Rockers

Before he became the "Heartbreak Kid," Shawn Michaels was part of, maybe, the gayest tag team in WWF history. Perhaps inspired by the hair bands of the 80s, The Rockers made their big debut in 1988. It was a short-lived run as the team broke up in 1991. The rumor was that Michaels pushed his partner, Marty Jannetty, to ask for more money and then threaten to quit when he didn't get it. Vince McMahon called his bluff and fired the team. Allegedly, Michaels then turned around and asked Vince to keep him on as a singles wrestler. DRAMA!

3. Steve Blackman, AKA The Lethal Weapon

Here's the thing with Steve Blackman, his character was pretty boring and dry as toast! He seemed way too normal to be in the WWF, but there he was! What made his story special was the fact that he was originally supposed to start his career in 1989, but contracted life-threatening malaria in South Africa. It took him over six years to recover and regain his strength, but when he did, he made his debut appearance on Monday Night Raw in 1997. Blackman's best moments were as part of the duo Head Cheese with Al Snow. Snow's psychotic behavior, paired with Blackman's straitlaced attitude, made for some comical moments.

4. Junkyard Dog

A black man in heavy chains, no, that's not racist! Junkyard Dog (Sylvester Ritter) was a former football player whose career was cut short because of knee and back surgery. Dog started wrestling for the WWF in 1984 and quickly became a beloved character because of his charisma and grandiose attitude.

5. High Energy

You know about Owen Hart and Koko B. Ware, but do you know about the awesomeness that was High Energy? You probably don't because they only had one pay-per-view special together, then the team was quietly dropped at the start of 1993, then Hart started a singles career. It's too bad, they were truly a testament to the early 90s. Just listen to this theme song!

6. Mantaur

Played by Mike Hallick, the Mantaur was basically just a regular wrestler with a giant bull's head on him. It was, quite obviously, a nod to the Minotaur, so the guy did a bunch of bull-like moves. LAAAAME!

7. The Killer Bees

These guys were a blip on the WWF radar in the eighties. There's not much to say about them except that they had this stupid move called, Masked Confusion, which consisted of them confusing their opponents by wearing identical masks. WTF? Anyway, nice undies.

8. Giant González

Jorge González was the tallest Argentine basketball player in history, so it's not just a clever nickname. González came and left in 1993, so you probably don't remember him. He didn't do much during his time with the WWF, but man, check out that ridiculous bodysuit!!!! Is he supposed to be Sasquatch? I'm pretty sure this is considered nudity somewhere.

9. Viscera

Viscera used to be Mabel, but then the Undertaker got a hold of him and all of a sudden he became gothic/undead. He didn't do much, and nobody really liked him as a character, but he stuck around for a couple of years after that. He kinda looks like Missy Elliot in that one video, am I right?
