Anyone who takes a photograph is a real photographer. It doesn’t mean you’re a TALENTED photographer, but if someone wants to create an ad using amateurish quality images then Instagram users’ photos can and will be used. Yes we use the service for free but at the price of being advertised to. Having our own images sold for profit, without license, for use in advertising directed back at us is not only theft but downright insulting. And a celebrity is neither more nor less deserving than a layperson of being paid for the profitable use of their own images. Your self-righteous indignation does not change the fact that Facebook and Instagram are trying to sell a product they neither own nor create by rigging the system to legalize theft.
