Because of the widespread securitization of mortgages during the real estate boom, the bank trying to foreclose on your house may not actually be able to find the original mortgage paperwork. It's probably only a stalling tactic - but when you're about to be kicked out of your house, stalling for 12 months is pretty awesome.
