James Franco in tights from the Academy Awards parody of “Black Swan.” His lack of shame is genuinely admirable.
The “Black Swan” segment of Acacdemy Awards co-hosts James Franco’s & Anne Hathaway’s Oscar-nominated films’ spoof shows Franco wearing a white, footless tank top (or sleveless) style unitard, not tights, as reported almost everywhere in the media. Tights are a garment worn only below the waist. A leotard is worn on the torso. A unitard, as the name implies, is a one-piece garment that incorporates both a leotard and tights. One could see Franco was wearing a unitard, because the garment continued from the torso to the legs with no waist band showing. And Franco’s unitard was footless because the garment stopped just above the ankles. A footed unitard (or tights) would continue down into the ballet slippers. But Franco’s ankles and the tops of his feet could be seen between the unitard and the white ballet slippers he was also wearing. Sometimes dancers wear socks with footless tights and unitards. I could not tell if Franco was wearing a dance belt, the male dancer’s equivalent of a jockstrap. But as his bulge was quite prominent, let’s just say if Franco was wearing a belt, it didn’t confine or restrict him much.
