Why Ike Barinholtz Is A Genius

His writing + his awkward acting = me on the floor laughing my face off

Can we talk about Ike Barinholtz for a minute? I just want to acknowledge his greatness.

If you don't know exactly who he is, he's a comedy writer/actor and one of my new favorite people.

Like most awesome people in comedy, he got his start in improv. He took classes with The Second City, ImprovOlympic, and Annoyance Theater. He toured with Boom Chicago and is one of the founding members of The Lindbergh Babies. He is most commonly known for his roles on MadTV and Eastbound and Down but I think he has finally found the perfect role for himself. Barinholtz currently plays Morgan the nurse on The Mindy Project. I realized a couple weeks ago that he is a writer on the show as well. He has written 4 episodes and has been the executive story editor on some of the most recent episodes. As an aspiring writer and TV lover in general, knowing I am watching an episode that he has written or has influenced the story in any way makes me watch it differently. I pay more attention to his character and to the jokes in the episode. I feel that being able to see Barinholtz on screen makes it easier for me to judge him as a writer and I think being able to judge the writer makes it easier to critique the episode. So what is my judgment of him? He is phenomenal. His jokes are pristine and his physical comedy and the awkwardness he brings to the character makes him a star. As the season has gone on we have seen the cast change multiple times but thankfully Morgan has been consistent. This show may not have it all together when it comes to their cast list but one thing is for sure: the show would be nothing without Ike Barinholtz.
