Kim K has yet again burst onto the scene with a photo of her bare behind as a way to, as she puts it, “feel more confident.” The magazine that shot the, dare we say it, spread did so in order to “break the internet.” Unfortunately for Kim, she has a long way to go if she wants to be as important as the items listed below and the companies marketing to make the issues known.

Utah Suicide Rate is Soaring

The suicide rate in Utah has climbed at an alarming rate and is now one of the nation’s highest. The Salt Lake Tribune reports that in 2012, 545 Utahans committed suicide, up by 456 in the previous year. Suicide is also the fourth leading cause of death for Utahans aged 24 to 64.

Since 2010, on average, 3,968 people in Utah were hospitalized or treated in an emergency room due to injuries sustained during a suicide attempt.

Women are Still Not Entirely Equal

The Institute for Women’s Policy Research reports on its site that in four out of ten families, women are the main breadwinners. They also make up for more than half of the workforce. Yet in 2013, female workers only made 78 cents for every dollar earned by a man.

Many companies, think marketing or major corporations, are aiming to make this reality a thing of the past by offering corporate positions to women as well as the pay and benefits they deserve.

Liking Isn’t Helping

Some marketing companies and agencies are building ads for nonprofit organizations. One such organization is Crisis Relief International. This ad is an initiative to show people that hitting the like button on Facebook isn’t changing anything. The ad leaves the viewer with a call to action to do something to actually help the people in need.

Finding This Woman

Kayelyn Louder is a real person. She disappeared from Murray, Utah on September 17th and hasn’t been seen or heard from since. Sharing Kim K’s rear won’t help anyone, but sharing Kayelyn’s picture might help find her.

Kayelyn ran away from her condo barefoot in shorts and a tank top on a chilly rainy night leaving behind her money, phone, car and even her dog Phyllis. She had phoned 911 three times in the 24 hours leading up to her disappearance.

Negligence of Children

An Australian marketing company did an ad for the Australian Childhood Foundation to dramatize the issue of neglect. They placed mannequins dressed as children behind large posters with the phrase, “Neglected children are made to feel invisible.”
