Hamas Says 3 Of Its Senior Leaders Have Been Killed In An Air Strike In Gaza

The Palestinian militant group said the senior leaders were hit while in a house in Rafah.

Three senior leaders of Hamas have been killed in an Israeli air strike in Gaza, the Palestinian militant group said in a text message to media outlets, the Associated Press reported.

Mohammed Abu Shamaleh, Mohammed Barhoum, and Raed al-Attar were in a house in the southern town of Rafah at the time.

The deaths of Raed al-Attar and Mohammed Abu Shamaleh were confirmed by Israeli Defense Force spokesman Peter Lerner on Twitter.

The three were members of the Qassam Brigades 15-person council, according to CNN.

AP is reporting that Palestinian officials have said that six people were killed in the Rafah strike, with dozens of others still trapped in the rubble of the four-story building.

The IDF said it hit 20 targets in Gaza overnight, responding to rocket fire from within the Palestinian enclave.
