Three People Shot At Delaware State University Campus

The incident happened at a Saturday night Greek cookout. The victims, who were not students, are expected to survive. The shooter is still at large.

Three people were shot on Saturday night at a cookout on the Delaware State University campus, according to a statement on the university's website.

"The University can report that three victims, all non-DSU students, are in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries," according to a statement from University President Harry L. Williams.

The shooting happened at a university-approved function for fraternity and sorority members, university spokesman Carlos Holmes told the AP.

The wounded were taken to hospital and were in a stable condition on Sunday afternoon.

Williams said the incident is now under police investigation and no arrests have been made.

"The DSU Police Department remains on full alert and continues to patrol the entire campus," he said. "We also have 24-hour identification checks in place and only one entrance open. Along with our great team of public safety professionals, we believe that the campus and its residents are safe."

One eyewitness, who didn't want to be identified, said the shooting was preceded by a fight during the event.

"One guy was on the ground bleeding out. The other guy was limping," the witness told local reporters.

Williams advised the students to stay indoors and asked all non-DSU students to leave the university's premises.

The university president said police were also investigating a second incident that occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning when shots were fired near the University Courtyard Apartments. No one was injured.

These latest incidents come after a November shooting on campus which left one student injured. Two people were charged for that shooting.
