“Abstinence” only seems like a foolproof method of birth control until you replace the term with what it really means: “good intentions.”

I’m christian, and I believe in teaching safe sex not abstinence in school because I’m not a dumb ass who has my head in the sand! Do I think teens need to wait till they are older and more responsible to deal with the consequences, yes of course but guess what, that probably won’t happen because teens will do what their hormones tell them to do. I do believe in teaching masturbation as a great alternative to sex though! Helped me stay a virgin up till I was 18, sex can wait masturbate is what I use to say in school! But teens need to know about knowing who their partner is,are they a psycho who will stalk you if so do not sleep with them. They need to know about getting tested to make sure their partner and them both don’t have herpes or HPV which you can get with a condom! I’m from Texas and I’ve seen the harm in abstinence only education, half of the girls in my school were pregnant! So I saw first hand that it just doesn’t work! Also, I’m a lesbian, I didn’t know anything about safe sex for gay females, like how even I can get AIDs! Thankfully I learned about it when I got older and came out of the closet, even though I had to look it up on the internet! They need to teach kids everything and not make sex a bad thing but a beautiful thing that is totally natural and great. Not something to be ashamed of feeling, because that to me just leads to hatred of yourself and gender stereotypes and homophobia if you think about it. If a girl likes sex and wants to have it, she’s a slutty little whore, but if a guy does it, he’s fine and dandy even though women and men have the same sexual desire, I’m a woman please do not argue with me I think I should know more than a man. If you are gay and you are having feelings for the same sex you are to be ashamed, even though it’s who you are and there is nothing wrong with it. We need to stop making sex something it isn’t. Yes it’s good and special, not saying it isn’t, yes both parties should be consenting, but in the end, it’s just sex, two (or more) people rubbing their parts together. Sex isn’t meant for just making babies, it’s for connection, intimacy and of course getting off! CAN I GET AN AMEN!!!

I wish the interviewer had pushed the distinction between abstinence and abstinence-only education. Of course abstinence prevents pregnancy. But if abstinence-only education doesn’t lead to actual abstinence, then, no, it doesn’t work. It’s like the abstinence-only approach to dieting. Wanna lose weight? DON’T EAT SO MUCH! You don’t even need to exercise. So, how’s that abstinence-only diet working for you, Rush? My, you’re looking svelte. NOT! What a narrow-minded fanatic Perry is. He embodies the problem with the conservative movement. It makes no allowance for the real world, or for human nature (the same argument holds against communism). It’s all pie-in-the-sky wishful thinking, unconcerned with results or practability.  I blame religion. Religion teaches people to remove reality from the equation and think only in terms of “what if everyone were perfect?”. Yeah, well, we aren’t. Even Jesus said poverty is impossible to solve. If these nutbars would pay closer attention to their alleged savior and spokesman, they might not be such insufferable assholes.

That was painful, why didn’t he just say “Jesus” and “USA”, take his applause and move on?

It’s really not fair to expect a Republican to “be coherent” or to “make sense.” That’s not what they do.

Those poor pregnant kids never had a chance… a lot of teenagers have sex, that’s a fact, kids need sex ed these days, they need to be responsible.
