Culture Buzz At the Bangkok Zoo, people stopped visiting the elephants, because they were more interested in the pandas. So zookeepers did the only logical thing. By which I mean the dumbest, weirdest thing. Here's how that turned out.

Actually, the tag line on this photo is incorrect.
These Thai elephants are in Ayutthaya, the ancient capital of Thailand. Elephants are the National symbol (animal) of Thailand. Recently, a (Chinese) baby panda was born in Chiang Mai Zoo (http://www.planetwatch.eu/zoo-produces-baby-panda-after-years-of-trying/), and the elephant keepers in Ayutthaya got jealous. So they thought that if pandas get attention but elephants can't, then it's better to be pandas. Hence the new water paint color scheme.
They're elephants - that's what they're there for: to just be elephants… But now they have to slip into weird panda costumes… I wouldn't be surprised if one of them attacked their keepers. Just keep them healthy and happy - nix the panda get-ups.
