1. Nicholas The Bloody Vs. Van Jones
Nicholas II, nicknamed “The Bloody,” published anti-semitic propaganda that caused countless deaths. Obama’s “Green Jobs Czar”, Van Jones, is also a published author. His book, The Green Collar Economy, is a New York Times bestseller.

2. Ivan The Terrible Vs. Paul Volcker
Ivan The Terrible was known for periodic outbursts of insane rage, during one of which he murdered his own son. Like Ivan The Terrible, “Economic Czar” Paul Volcker has made disastrous family decisions. Volcker once angered his wife by going fly fishing during their honeymoon.

3. Boris Godunov Vs. R. Gil Kerlikowske
Boris Godunov suffered from severe paranoia that caused him to persecute “treason” suspects turned in by informants. Obama’s “Drug Czar” R. Gil Kerlikowske, is also worried about crime. So worried, in fact, that he serves on the board of Fight Crime: Invest in Kids, a crime-prevention policy group.

4. Alexandra Romanova Vs. Nancy-Ann Min DeParle
Alexandra Romanova is known for her love for the mystic Rasputin, a dangerous maniac. Nancy-Ann Min DeParle, Obama’s “Health Czar”, also has a well-known “lover” - her husband, Jason DeParle, is a reporter for The New York Times.
Czar Vs. Tsar
Czars. They’re just like us. Glenn Beck’s been making a huge deal out of Obama’s official “Czars,” pointing out that Czars are actually scary, autocratic Russian rulers. A bit of research shows he has a real - and frightening - point. Prepare to be shocked by these uncanny comparisons between Obama’s Czars and their Russian counterparts.

Michael M. 3 years agoThe real point of contention about these “Czars” (and I can’t stand Glenn Beck, so I don’t watch his show and I don’t know or care what he says about them) is that they are unelected, largely unaccountable, and unscrutinized public officials in positions of considerable authority. They don’t directly make policy, but they report to the President who, in turn, takes their advice in forming his own policy and directing his cabinet. There is a very good argument to be made for the lack of constitutional authority for the creation of such positions in the Executive branch. And yes, previous administrations had Czars also, and I didn’t like it any more then. But, like with spending, the prevalence of the Czars has exploded with the Obama administration. I know most people here probably agree with the proposition of a “Green Jobs Czar,” a “Regulations Czar,” or a “Diversity Czar.” But would you not be raising hell if George W. Bush had appointed comparable crazies to ideologically-driven positions? Marriage Czar James Dobson? Faith-based Education Czar (I know he’s dead, but this is a hypothetical) Jerry Falwell? That’s scary shit.

Scott S. 3 years agothe man photographed in the third entry is celebrated Russian composer and alcoholic Modest Mussorgsky not Boris Godunov. Godunov lived during the 16th century; cameras were scarce to say the least. Mussorgsky DID write an opera based on a Pushkin play about Godunov… so they’re basically the same dude.
