1. The Love Boat

Hanks made his Hollywood debut on a 1980 episode of, "The Love Boat," where he debuted, "boat face."

2. Splash

Though 1984's Splash is not a, "good movie," it's certainly worthy of mention among Hanks's earliest forays into the filmic realm he would come to dominate.... floating.

3. Joe Versus The Volcano

1990's Joe Versus the Volcano was Hanks's first big break as a floating actor. Though it never really got the credit it deserved in the seafaring romantic comedy genre, it did pave the way for this next role, arguably the most influential off-land romcom portrayal of all time.

4. Sleepless In Seattle

5. Forest Gump

In 1994, Hanks stepped up to his first Captaincy in a role so amazing that they made a restaurant about it.

In '95, as Kevin Costner was making an ill-fated bid for the boat actor thrown with, Waterworld, Hanks was already branching-out in the field with a successful transition from sea to zero gravity. The Apollo mission didn't make it to the moon, but with Hanks's help, the fictional version of the crew was able to bring floating thespianism to new heights.

7. Saving Private Ryan

In 1998, Hanks spread some epic, "boat face," on one of the greatest boating moments in history, the WWII landing at normandy.
