It isn’t, and that’s precisely the problem. We continue to be blissfully unaware that many of the stores we frequent donate massive sums of money to political candidates that don’t support our positions on many issues. This is one of the reasons that our government is completely inept and useless at making any progress nowadays; when it’s not in the interest of the companies that support the lobbyists, its not on the agenda. That’s why its up to us as consumers in a capitalist society to at least voice our support in favor of companies who either stay out of political matters (this is somewhat unlikely I understand, although its not non-existent, some companies are neutral) or those that actively support progressive ideals. Since this is primarily how our society runs, one of our avenues of real change is to voice our opinions with our wallets by being informed of matters such as Urban Outfitters support of candidates like Rick Santorum, etc.
