The “good seats” at Les Mis for my grandmother and I. Probably more money than most of my wardrobe altogether but way worth the money for a night out with one of my favorite women!
I started running because my mom could run half marathons and I thought I should probably be able to do at least one given I am 30 years younger than her. Now I continue running so I can beat the number of races she’s done.
Call my mom. Without fail she will get me out of my head and into a calmer place. When I worked in Austria for 4 months I had terrible anxiety over the language barrier and living in a foreign country so I calld her almost daily panicing or crying. She’d almost always be able to understand what I was going through and talk me down from the anxious state I was in. Talking to someone who understands and has an outside perspective brings a lot of clarity in those anxious moments.
To no longer be 9 time zones away from my boyfriend. After that I just want a night in with beer and Netflix.
Find a good group of friends who you trust to take care of you when you are drunk. Especially ones who will still take care of you when they are almost as drunk as you. It’s reassuring to know that if you drink a little too much tequila, you will end up somewhere safe at the end of the night.
He’s in California, I’m in Austria. That’s a 9 hour time difference. He works long hours and we’re lucky if we can have a 5 minute phone call when I wake up, maybe once a week. My job is much more relaxed than his so when we re both awake I have a lot more freedom to chat than he does and it sometimes feels quite one-sided. We try to Skype on the weekends but even then he has to plan for a call in the middle of the day or I have to get up early/ go to sleep late just to accommodate.
My mom told me that the only way to make a relationship last is to be best friends above everything else and that you should only think of it as a friendship with added intimacy.
