12 Things You Need To Know About “The Host”

It’s Stephenie Meyer and Andrew Niccol’s latest venture, and it hits theaters on March 29. Twilight fans are definitely going to be happy.

I know, right? Now tell your friends!
12 Things You Need To Know About "The Host"
Erin La Rosa

1. Plot summary:

The Host is a sci-fi love adventure of a film based on a novel by Stephenie Meyer of the same title. In it, there’s a new alien force, called Souls, who are threatening the very existence of mankind by taking humans and using their bodies as hosts. In other words, a human’s body remains intact as the Soul takes hold, but the human mind is erased completely.

That is, until Melanie Stryder (Saoirse Ronan) comes along — because she refuses to give up her body and mind to an invading Soul. In fact, she remembers everything about her former life, including memories of her sexy man mate Jared (Max Irons).

So, what happens when Melanie wanders into the desert to find her family and the hunk of man she loves?! Well, you’ve gotta see the movie on March 29 to find out.

2. This is the latest trailer for “The Host,” and it features Diane Kruger and a lot of flashy eyes.

3. Plus, a hint of Saoirse Ronan’s fab chrome* dress!

*FYI: Souls just love chrome, because they’re ballers. The character she plays, Melanie, wears this dress once she’s taken.

4. Usually when a Soul’s inserted into a human, the human mind disappears.

5. Not the case with Melanie, though. Her human consciousness doesn’t go away: It survives.

Side note: If you’re wondering how to pronounce “Saoirse,” her name rhymes with “inertia.” So, Saoirse = ser-sha.

Plus, she wore oxfords to the premiere of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 because heels are for losers.

Another important side note: Saoirse is Irish and has the most adorable accent imaginable in real life.

6. In “The Host,” Saoirse gets to kiss Jared, played by Max Irons, and it’s hot.

7. Actually, they don’t even have to be kissing to look hot together.

8. Jared is the man who the human, Melanie, loved before she was taken.

And in real life he’s related to this other sexy guy, his dad, Jeremy Irons.

So if you’re too young for the sexy dad, you can hop on board the sexy-son train. It’s a one-stop Irons shop!

9. And this is Jake Abel, who plays Ian, one of the rebel humans who has a complicated relationship with Melanie.

10. There’s a love square between Jared, Melanie, Ian, and the Soul who has taken Melanie’s body.

11. Souls are technically the bad guys, but not everything about them is awful: They don’t lie or steal, they care about the environment and basically make the world better, and they really love chrome.

Plus, check out Kruger’s fab fash!

12. There will also be two more books, making this cat super-pumped about having a trilogy to rest its head on.

You know despite misconceptions based on the movies, the Twilight saga, the BOOKS were pretty good, the movies, especially the first one… not so much ( I think this is mostly due to Robert Pattinson, who CANNOT act most of the time.). But the Host… was incredible, it became my favorite book the first time I read it, the emotions, the idea, the characters, are wonderful. I’m excited to hear it’ll be a trilogy. Semi-exited that it will be a movie, just hope it’s a different screen writer and director than the first Twilight, and that Robert Pattinson is nowhere near it.
By the way, if any of you had ever took the time to read any of the books, you might actually like them, I thought Bella was a unique character (at the time) and Breaking Dawn was the best of the saga. The movies, have given the books and Meyer, a bad name. I encourage you to at least try reading them, if not Twilight, then the Host. It really is the most amazing book.
Never judge a book by its movie.

it was crap and her alien name was generated from a Muse song. This book sucked and I’m sure the movie will too.

Although I disliked Twilight, I found this book to be highly superior to it. I read it twice, actually. However, I’m a little reluctant to watch the movie, as I’m sure they will sacrifice the actual qualities for in-your-face romance, and they will turn it into an insufferable franchise like they did for Twilight. The books could have just been an okay series, but the movies IMO ruined it completely.
The other thing that made me respect this story is the fact that it was one novel, and though the ending was bittersweet, I found it suitable, and it was marvelous as a standalone book. Much more solid than those four monstrosities. But to hear now that she is writing two more is seriously irking me. I don’t know what made her change her mind in between the last three Twilight books. Stephenie Meyer, help yourself and prove to those who despise you that you are not a cashcow, PLEASE.

I agree as well, stephanie Meyers compared herself to JK. Rowling….Absolutely not, JK Rowling is a genius. Stephanie Meyers is a complete disaster, and should be embarrassed of her “novels”

I was completely surprised by the writing in this book. It was like an entirely different author. The story is actually wonderful and brings up a lot of interesting questions about society, morality, and what other intelligent life could be like. It also has a zombie apocalypse survival vibe which I love. The romance (thank god) isn’t the WHOLE book, but is interwoven really well with a wonderful, suspenseful plot. Melanie and (Spoiler) the soul inside her, Wanda, are excellent well filled out characters that you won’t hate unlike *cough* Bella. The men are also very three dimensional and the rest of the supporting characters as well! And the description of (spoiler) other worlds was fantastic too. All in all I thought it was a great book. Romance was great, action was great, plot was great, characters were great. But I’m scared for the movie if they “Twilight” it I’ll be heartbroken. I’m not sure if that’s the direction it’s going from the trailers but it could be. I hope they keep the essence of the book and do it justice, but it could suck. Though Saoirse could never suck. Ever. Too-long-didn’t-read comment anyone?

I found the plot interesting, but Stephanie Meyer keeps putting in all these Mary Sue’s. Sigh. It had such potential.

I will not be seeing it. Like Allison said, I refuse to give that woman any money. And apparently she can’t write a freaking book without a stupid love triangle.

Jeremy Irons is also in the new movie “Beautiful Creatures”, which is being marketed as the next “Twilight”…much like this movie is.

Only watching this for Saoirse. I LOVE that girl, she’s absolutely gorgeous and super talented. She’s going to take S.Meyer’s slop and turn it into pure gold.
