I wish more opportunities for tranquilizer shots were available. The whole taking-a-few-to-save-the-many argument only works when you have population problems, like with deer in some areas. And guess why we have those problems? Because we killed all their predators! I’m not a hunter myself, but I used to date one and even though he’d never go predator hunting, he’d describe the adrenaline rush you’d get from even the opportunity to take a shot and I’d get where he was coming from. I’ve gone shooting a few times, and I’m not gonna lie - shooting guns is fun! If we had more opportunities for hunters to track a large game animal for research, and take the ‘kill’ shot with a tranquilizer so the animal can be collared and documented, we’d have a win-win. Take a paw print and a photo, and go back and brag to your friends that you shot a lion AND really, genuinely helped preserve the species.
