1. You work hard to make your resume look as impressive as possible.

Had an internship a few years back? Volunteered with the Red Cross once? Any thing with even the slightest relevancy goes onto your resume as you try to stand out from all the other new graduates entering the work force. You may not have the most experience, but you have the heart and drive to make up for it!

2. You know the feeling of submitting an application and only then catching your mistake.

"Attached you will find my resume. Ok, in this follow-up email, you will find my resume attached. And in this one my attached cover letter. Wait. Did I change the name on my cover letter? Please tell me I remembered to include my new address..."

3. You got all excited for a job posting only to find out it's from 7 months ago.

Reading through the job description, every sentence further convinces you this position was written for you! Reading through the job requirements you know you can do everything they ask and more. The listed skills are basically word for word what you already have on your resume. Time to hit apply and... you see that the job was posted several months ago and no one bothered to take it down.

Sigh. On to the next one.

4. Your friend gets a job and they encourage you to keep trying.

You're happy for them, you really are, but you can't help but wish it was you. Never thought you'd be so envious of someone getting a fast food job but yet here you are. Back to the other age old grind of searching for work.

5. You're hard pressed to not just beg for the chance to work at a company.

Yes you realize there are at least four other people out there with almost the exact resume and skill set, but you'll be damned if you aren't the person for this job, not them! What sets you apart? Being an Eagle Scout? Your time studying abroad? All your freelance work? That guy you know from the company? Your people skills? Tell me what you want me to say!

6. You almost had something once, but then it turned out to be a scam.

Everything was going well! The recruiter sounded so excited about you working at the company, they're a global marketing something or other, they train you on site and there's plenty of opportunities to move up in the company very quickly. The interview was a breeze and you practically had the job right there!

And then the recruiter tells you about the training program fee, the 12 hour "second interview" going door to door selling cable packages, that the pay is actually commission based and that this really was just too good to be true. In fact, you're pretty sure this is a pyramid scheme and you just dodged a bullet!

7. You've had your emotions played with by job postings in the past.

Reading through the job description, it sounds challenging but within your abilities. Skills needed call for, well, you can always learn that program over the weekend. Wait, hey want someone with how many years of industry experience?

Welp, you almost could have maybe had a chance with this one. On to the next posting!

8. You've applied to so many places without so much as a confirmation email response and you've burnt yourself out.

Job hunting is a full time job. And lately you've been working over time since your savings are running out, your mom keeps joking that you should start paying rent soon, and your loans are out of deferment next month. Between scanning the job sites, rewriting your cover letter and firing off emails like a demon, you've been putting in more hours than you would be if you actually had a job!

Eventually your body screams enough and you collapse into a psychically, mentally and emotionally drained mess. You spare a few days off to recover, but then it's back at it.

9. For the last several months you've been passed around through your network of friends and family.

Your mailing address has now changed more times in the last year than the rest of your life. After moving out of the dorms you were living with your one friend, then that one family member who lived in the same state, then you lived out of your car for a few weeks, followed by a few months of couch surfing and finally the dreaded move back home with your parents.

At this point, you're pretty much used to living out of a suitcase and most of your stuff is stuck in a storage locker anyways. All you want is a place you can store your stuff without feeling like a total burden to someone else.

10. Some days you just don't want to go on.

Leave me here. I'll just eat ramen and lint and live in the guest bedroom the rest of my existence. If anyone needs me, I'll be under my crushing student loan bills and accumulated rejection letters.

11. Finally someone sends you a job posting that is in your field, your experience level, your area, and is a good opportunity!

For all your searching, sometimes your friends and family find the right position for you. Sure sometimes they've been way off and you could only politely thank them for thinking of you, but this time they practically dragged you to the site and showed you the posting! It's their way of showing they care and want you to succeed, so don't fight it and give it a shot.

12. You finally get contacted for an interview and you're overjoyed!

You feel alive for the first time in months! Rereading the email again and again you see an end to your struggles and an end to the madness! You only need to present yourself as a responsible adult, break out your good shoes and this interview is yours!

Well, that and read up more on the company, connect with some of their employees on LinkedIn, get a haircut, iron your shirt, figure out how to get to the interview, don't forget to respond to the email in a timely manner, prepare some answers to their questions, prepare questions for them, etc.

13. But hey! You got this, don't sweat it!

Go into that interview strong! Wear something professional but comfortable, practice your questions ahead of time, and make sure that handshake is a good one! You can do this! Don't think about why you need this job, think about why you are the perfect person for this job. If you believe it, they will too!

Errr, jet skiing! Ok, so regardless of whether or not you know if you got the job yet, pat yourself on the back and allow yourself to enjoy life for a moment. You got the interview, they clearly saw something in your they liked, the interview didn't go horribly, you have plenty to be happy about!
