Former Oklahoma star, NBA veteran, award winning jazz musician, and all around good guy lost his fight with cancer today. For all of his accomplishments before and after basketball, Wayman Tisdale will always be tied to Keith Lee of Memphis State and that epic game in 1985. I rooted for Wayman back then and was rooting for him to beat cancer these last two years. Both losses in the end, but a valiant fight each time.

SPORTS BUZZ: The “Redeem Team” took care of business today in today’s semi-final game vs. Argentina. Team USA beat the team that kept them from winning the 2004 gold. It wasn’t always pretty (a big lead was cut to six at one point), but a victory nonetheless against the most difficult challenger in the tourney. Still one more victory for their first gold in a major international tournament since 2000. They recently beat Spain by 37, so it’s lookin’ good.

SPORTS BUZZ: Three silvers and finally the gold on the balance beam. Shawn and Nastia Liukin may be friends, but you could tell that Shawn was getting sick and tired of second place. I, for one, am very happy to see Shawn nab the elusive gold medal. Probably not the way that she was hoping these games would go, but I would say that a gold and three silvers is pretty awesome for 16-year-old high schooler. Congrats Shawn!

SPORTS BUZZ: With 11 gold medals and counting, that seems to be the word on the street. All over the web and TV, people are touting Michael as the best Olympic athlete ever. With more golds then anyone in history, that seems to be a fair argument (apologies to Lewis, Spitz, and Owens), but now people are saying that he may be the greatest athlete of all time. That one requires a little more debate (and this is from someone who grew up in Baltimore). Jordan, Woods, Brown, Ali, Owens… Go Michael… make it 8 for 8, all in WR fashion!
