Male gaze or male gays?

This oil painting by Renoir indulges the straight male viewer's voyeuristic fantasies, allowing him to peek in on the private activities of a young lady.

MALE GAZE!

This 1882 Manet painting, "A Bar at the Folies-Bergère," depicts a woman staring into the distance while the man in the mirror (the viewer himself) stares right at her. This establishes an unequal power dynamic between the two and creates the objectification of the woman as merely an object to be appreciated.

Here, gay U.S. Military marchers at a Pride parade in San Diego are cheered on by onlookers. 2012 marked the first year that LGBT service members were allowed to wear their uniforms in a Pride parade.

This 1545 painting, "A Triumph of Venus" by Agnolo Bronzino depicts Venus arranging her body in a way so as to display it clearly to the viewer. The painting was created by a man and would be viewed by men (as women were confined to more private spheres at this time in Florence), so the image of the woman is created for the sole purpose of male pleasure, clearly showing her nude form.

These young American men are dating each other and both seem to have similar haircuts. Be careful taking selfies while driving! Distracted driving can be fatal.

This 1993 Calvin Klein "Obsession" cologne for men ad features a naked Kate Moss. This image was created by men to sell a product for men, yet features a nude woman. This is a typical example of the male gaze in advertising: sex sells, especially when it involves the objectification of women. Many advertising campaigns today similarly use women's bodies to sell products to men.
