What It's Like To Be Married To A Pilot Right Now

    Dangerous? Surely not...

As you are probably aware, a rather high profile case concerning a plane has been in the news. The devastating loss of another Malaysian plane - this time through, it has been suggested, purposeful damage - has made it even more frightening to take to the air. But what about those people (both pilots and other members of staff) that make their living through taking to a plane, thousands of feet up? And what about their partners?

Right now, it's kind of scary to be married to a pilot.

After all, it seems much more of a dangerous job now.

But being married to a pilot puts on a whole new perspective.

My husband is currently training to a pilot, so although he's up in the air, he isn't flying big jets yet.

So what's it like to be married to a pilot right now?

After all, how dangerous could it be?

But then your mind starts to worry.

You start thinking about all of the people on MH17, and their families.

They thought they were safe. And they were wrong.

Before long, you are a shivering wreck.

And you start what is natural: bargaining.

You quietly try to make a deal with whatever deity you think is listening...

You cajole, you plea, you beg...

Because you know eventually, that call will come...

...the call saying that they are totally fine.

Travelling by plane is still, statistically, the safest way to travel. In fact, you are much more likely to have a car accident on the way to or from an airport.

And at the end of the day, it's what your spouse loves.

Say goodbye to your nails though.

Because from now on, the assumption that our pilots were safe once in the air is no longer true.
