      I don’t think it is bad taste on the White House team for allowing Jay-Z access to the political events. Jay-Z tells the very real story and struggle of many Americans dealing and engaging with poverty and crime yet he is also the voice of rising from that struggle. Maybe the Obama administration is strategically endorsing THAT, the Jay-Z that represents upward mobility and entrepreneurship. Many intellectuals and scholars have studied Jay-Z’s influence on culture and communities. Jay-Z isn’t just a thug from the streets but is an influential figure, one who is studied and written about, vouched by scholars and cultural studies intellectuals. If anyone is interested in something more than just a reductive understanding of Jay-Z then I suggest reading “Jay-Z: Essays on Hip Hop’s Philosopher King” edited by Julius Bailey and foreword by Cornel West.

      I’m on team Obama but I think it’s disgusting and disgraceful that Jay Z has gotten such access to and acceptance from the white house. This is a guy who sings about his past getting rich selling crack. He likes to sing about fucking people up, about pimping hoes, and about how every woman (including his wife presumably?) is a bitch. Wonder how the first lady feels about that. And now he’s some kind of role model hanging out at the white house? Maybe he’ll jump in with a rap interlude when Beyonce’s singing. Here’s a particularly mild old chestnut of his that he could dust off to thrill the inauguration crowd: You know I, thug ‘em, fuck ‘em, love ‘em, leave ‘em
      Cause I don’t fuckin’ need ‘em
      Take ‘em out the hood, keep ‘em looking good
      But I don’t fuckin feed ‘em

      Let ‘em play with the dick in the truck He’s got a right to say whatever he wants and build a career on whatever he wants, and the white house has the option to exercise taste and good judgment. In this case he’s just +1 tagging along with Beyonce but it’s not the first time he’s gotten this level of access, access he got by being rich and famous, riches and fame he got by singing things like the above, singing things like the above based on living that kind of life.
