Now that they have national attention, someone should help those kids start their own pool club and put that other one out of business. I mean, if I were those kids I wouldn't even want to set foot in there now.
Culture Buzz The terrible staff at The Valley Swim Club barred a bunch of Black campers from swimming after fear that they would change “the complexion of the club.” The club, which boasts “open membership,” is apparently welcoming to all types of Caucasian, bigoted a-holes.

Sean, I don't think you're racist but I do think you're an idiot if you think THAT early comment about “changing the complexion” has anything to do with the image of the club. Wouldn't it have been more intelligent to say what you mean? Now, those of us educated indivuduals might think to use more complex words with several meanings but in a sensitive case like this…”complexion” would not have been the route an dunce would take. Take heed of the PR persons revision of the “real” reason why via Gran Prix below, now they have to clean house. Clearly, this is a case of discrimination.

Good ending for bigots! Got gas?
The other really sad thing about this is that the Club is now totally screwed, no matter what. Folks have just made up their minds that this is racism, and nothing else will suffice. I cant blame the manager for acting as he did: he's probably getting whacked a lot with charges he's a racist on all sides — and yet the more folks pile on him, the more possible I see that maybem just maybe, FOLKS GOT IT WRONG. Still, it's easier to show a sad little face of a poor abused victim/camper than it is to realize that the world is a slightly more complicated place than the neat and tidy thing we think it all is. And I have no doubt that I too will be called a racist for writing this. You'd be wrong, but hey whatever assuages your own guilt.
I dont excuse racism, but did any of you ever think it was the fact that they were *kids* and not *adults*? Is it possible that club's membership prefers having *adults* at the pool? “Complexion” doesnt have to always mean skin colour, y'know. I realize that's difficult to comprehend, but give it a shot, eh?
I'm also a teacher, and this is so sad.
The club's statement.

I teach at a predominantly black school. My tears started 34 seconds in, when the kid innocently said “I don't know what happened.” This blatant exercise in racism is deplorable at anytime, but because this is the summer when kids should be running wild and goofing off, I'm furious.
I'm seeing this article all over the place..which is great.
Ridiculous. What a way of instilling negativity into the next generation. Good job guys.
